Licensed child care providers in Oregon are required to follow these Child Care Licensing Division rules for safe sleep practices
Employee Qualifications

Works with classroom teachers to promote the educational and social development of the children enrolled in the program.

Responsibilities:
Be knowledgeable of rules for certification of childcare centers as set forth by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.
Update class attendance record and turn it into the office at the end of each day. Ensure that proper staffing ratios are always maintained. Notify front desk staff if/when additional staff is needed.
Work with classroom teachers to ensure the classroom is running smoothly.
Carry out tasks and duties as requested by the head teacher/teacher in charge of assigned classroom.
Assist with meals, toileting, and hand washing.
Assist in classroom management: reinforcing desired behavior and helping children develop social skills.
Help teachers prepare for the day by assembling materials and necessary equipment.
Perform general housekeeping tasks.
Facilitate meal and snack times, helping children feed themselves and encouraging them to try new foods.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and other career development and professional activities.
Complete continuing education hours per State requirements each year.

Qualifications
Teacher aide must be at least 14 years of age.
Meet the initial training requirements (also see 414-305-0370, Orientation and Initial Training)
If 18 years of age or older, be within sight OR sound of a staff member who meets
the qualifications of a teacher or aide II, as specified in 414-305-0350(4)(a), at all times while with children, except when:
(A) Accompanying a child or a group of children to the bathroom.
(B) Providing minor medical attention to a child.
(C) A child is ill and has been separated from the other children until the child leaves the center; or
(D) Rest time staff-to-child ratios apply, per OAR 414-305-0400(7).
If under 18 years of age, be within sight AND sound of a staff person who meets the qualifications of a teacher or aide II, as specified in 414-305-0350(4)(a), at all times with children. If under 18 years old, an aide I may never be left alone with a child or group of children.

Teacher aide must be at least 18 years of age.
Meet the initial training requirements (also see 414-305-0370, Orientation and Initial Training)
Have at least 240 documented hours of experience as an aide I or aide II, of which at least 80 hours must be at the center where the individual is currently employed.
(A) If working in a classroom with toddlers or older age children, experience can be with any age group.
(B) If working with infants, an aide II must have 240 hours of experience working with infants If under 18 years of age, be within sight AND sound of a staff person who meets the qualifications of a teacher or aide II, as specified in 414-305-0350(4)(a), at all times with children. If under 18 years old, an aide I may never be left alone with a child or group of children.
An aide II may not be alone with a group of children except when:
(a) Supervising a group of children and aide I to cover for staff breaks, provided staffto-child ratios are maintained, and there is another staff who is teacher or director qualified present at the facility.
(b) Times identified in 414-305-0350(2)(d)(A) through (D);

(d) Substituting for the teacher in the primary group of children the aide II works with. Substituting for the teacher is limited to up to two consecutive weeks. If longer than two weeks, the director must notify CCLD with a plan to manage the classroom. While substituting, staff-to-child ratios must be maintained, and there must be another staff who is teacher or director qualified present at the facility.

Teachers work with or under the supervision of Lead Teachers to perform the following general duties

Be knowledgeable of rules for certification of childcare centers as set forth by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.
Communicate with Head Teacher on a regular basis to ensure that all goals are being met. Provide positive input on how to meet goals of class.
Update class attendance record and turn it into the office at the end of each day. Ensure that proper staffing ratios are always maintained. Notify front desk staff if/when additional staff is needed.
Know and adhere to diapering policies as needed for your position.
Keep daily observations of the children, documenting their times of eating, changing, sleeping, etc. in the ProCare app.
Work with children, either individually or in small groups, to help reinforce lessons presented by lead teachers.
Supervise students in class, during lunch and nap, playtime or recess, and at special events, like field trips.
Assist in classroom management: reinforcing desired behavior and helping children develop social skills.
Help teachers prepare for the day by assembling materials and necessary equipment.
Facilitate meal and snack times, helping children feed themselves and encouraging them to try new foods.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and other career development and professional activities.
Complete continuing education hours per State requirements each year.
Act as Lead teacher in the event that Lead teacher is absent.

At least 750 hours of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Childcare Center, or comparable group care program in the appropriate age level or
One year or 1,500 hours of qualifying teaching experience in Registered Family or Certified Family childcare or
Documentation of attaining at least step 6 in the Oregon Registry; OR 9 quarter credits in two CKCs (3 must be in HGD or UGB) or
A minimum of an associate degree from a college or university in a qualifying major or
A state or nationally recognized credential, e.g. Child Development Associate (CDA).

The lead teacher is responsible for the care and supervision of a classroom of children. The primary responsibilities include curriculum development and implementation, parent-teacher communication, and supervision of assistant teachers as needed.

Plan and implement the daily schedule of developmentally appropriate experiences for a classroom group of children.
Update class attendance record and turn it into the office at the end of each day. Ensure that proper staffing ratios are always maintained. Notify front desk staff if/when additional staff is needed.
Plan and implement a curriculum based on the interests and needs of the children in the classroom.
Gather and prepare materials needed for lessons and activities each day.
Post daily schedule and weekly lesson plan in a place visible to parents and staff.
Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment conducive to children’s growth and development.
Know and adhere to diapering policies as needed for your position.
Work with the Administrator/Director to help meet the needs of children with high support needs.
Work with parents to solve behavior challenges; arrange parent meetings as necessary and field parent’s concerns.
Keep daily observations of the children, documenting their times of eating, changing, sleeping, etc. in the ProCare app.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and other career development and professional activities.
Complete continuing education hours per State requirements each year.
Assure that furniture and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition at all times.
Write a monthly newsletter for parents, outlining what the children have been working on and any important dates to remember.

Lead Infant Teacher Qualifications

The lead infant teacher is responsible for the care and supervision of a classroom of children. The primary responsibilities include curriculum development and implementation, parent-teacher communication, and supervision of assistant teachers as needed

Be knowledgeable of rules for certification of childcare centers as set forth by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.
Provide completely for the physical needs of the infant in a warm, affectionate, and responsive manner.
Update class attendance record and turn it into the office at the end of each day. Ensure that proper staffing ratios are always maintained. Notify front desk staff if/when additional staff is needed.
Provide for the developmental needs of the infant. Provide an abundance of positive educational experiences that promote the children’s language, social, sensory, and intellectual growth.
Feed children according to state and center regulations. Never prop a bottle to feed and an infant that is unable to hold a bottle on his/her own. Return dishes to the kitchen; properly label and store unused portions.
Post daily feeding schedule and diapering schedule in a place visible to parents and staff.
Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment conducive to children’s growth and development.

These qualifications are in keeping with Oregon Child Services Division, code 414-305-0370

All employees must be enrolled in the Criminal History Registry upon employment.
All staff shall participate yearly in at least 18 clock hours of training or education related to child care of which at least 8 clock hours shall be in child development or early childhood education. Teachers and Aides 1 & 2 shall participate is at least 15 clock hours of training or education related to child care. This yearly requirement is based on our certification year which runs from May to April.

Within the first 90 days of employment, all staff members who function as teachers (including Aide II-in most cases) and count in staff/child ratios, with the exception of substitute teachers shall:
Complete first aid and CPR training or have current certification in first aid and CPR on file. First aid and CPR training must be kept current during employment at the Center.
Complete online training course on EDAPP.COM that includes the employee handbook, safety set classes or documentation of having completed such training, and the orientation videos set.
Complete food handler certification within 30 days of employment or have current certification on file. Food handler’s training must be kept current during employment at the Center.
